I had just cut the floatation out of an old pfd and was at sweet cheeks. The dude came down and down and then got out about 50 yards down stream and parked the duckie kinnda in the trees and watched me for 10 15 min before he started heading back up stream to me. He was with a women and they were wearing climbing helmets and astral rescue vest. He also had goggles and a bunch of other crap on his vest along with dry bags in the boat. Nothing forest service at all. He just told me he was a ranger and that I had to get out of the river right then and go talk to the other ranger on the other side of the river. I went over there told the truth that I had cut the jacket and left a little foam in it and he told me that I still had to get out and couldn't paddle anymore unless I had another vest. No ticket just a warning. After that I was out of my boat and he told me to boat on down to double suck so I could get a ride from there. The other dude stayed at sweet cheeks for a long time. I took me about 30 min to get a ride and he stayed there almost the entire time. No telling what he was doing.

: Was what they were wearing look anything like some kind of uniform like the park service badges sewn on their pfds like the rangers on the Gauley?
